Dunlop boots are best known for their Purofort material

Dunlop has dominated the rubber boot segment for years, primarily due to the Purofort material, which other manufacturers have failed to surpass, and because of continuous innovation. What technologies and materials can be found in Dunlop boots?

Dunlop Purofort®

Dunlop Purofort technology

In the early 1980s, Dunlop reinvented rubber and produced its first Purofort® boots. Purofort® boots are the best polyurethane boots in their class. In all key aspects, Purofort outperforms rubber boots and basic polyurethane. More than 10 million people worldwide wear these unique boots every day.

Purofort contains millions of air pockets (so-called pores). Since they are mixed under high pressure, they are evenly distributed. This is quite unique, as Dunlop is the only footwear manufacturer in the world using high-pressure technology in its production. Thanks to the evenly distributed air pores, Purofort provides extreme thermal insulation (-50°C/-60°C), keeping feet warm even in the coldest conditions. And because air and solid material are optimally mixed, Purofort is lightweight and comfortable.

Due to its molecular structure, the material is extremely flexible and cut-resistant. This structure contains both hard and soft blocks. The hard blocks make the boots resistant to cuts and abrasion, increasing their lifespan. The soft blocks allow for a thinner material layer, enhancing flexibility and comfort.

Dunlop Snugboot®

Dunlop Purotex technology

Snugboot boots are the most advanced boots from Dunlop. They offer the perfect combination of waterproof, abrasion-resistant, breathable, and comfortable footwear. Snugboot boots are composed of six key elements:

1) Upper made from Purotex® material, a four-layer material that provides 100% waterproof protection while ensuring breathability from the inside
2) Ergonomic design for maximum foot comfort
3) Lower section made from Purofort® material, ensuring excellent thermal insulation properties
4) Foot construction reinforced with fiberglass
5) Protective toe cap and anti-puncture insole metal-free
6) SRC slip-resistant outsole suitable for all terrains

Boots with a protective toe cap or without? How to choose Dunlop boots

Dunlop boots can be quickly categorized into work and leisure boots. That means boots with a safety toe cap and boots without a toe cap. Leisure boots can be further divided into women’s boots, which are available in smaller sizes and lower heights. Otherwise, all Dunlop boots are considered unisex and suitable for both men and women.

Another useful classification is based on features or materials. Dunlop uses its own unique materials, which make the brand so popular. Among the most favored are Purofort boots, mainly for their lightweight feel, durability, and thermal insulation. Also popular are Acifort boots, which are highly resistant to chemicals, oils, and fuels (so-called heavy-duty models, ideal for demanding and specific industries).

A quick glance at Dunlop’s boot range reveals that products fall into two price categories. Basic PVC boots range from €10-20, while premium boots made from advanced materials start at around €60.

When choosing a product, pay attention to class markings such as S4, S5, or O5. The letter S indicates safety models (with a protective toe cap), while the letter O indicates leisure models (without a toe cap). The number following the letter represents the safety class the product has achieved.

Agriculture, forestry, and industry. Where are Dunlop boots most useful?

Dunlop boots are synonymous with durability and reliability in demanding conditions. Whether you work in agriculture, forestry, construction, or industry, these boots provide maximum protection against water, chemicals, and dirt. Thanks to special materials like PUROFORT®, they are lighter, more flexible, and extremely resistant to abrasion and cracking.

In agriculture, you’ll appreciate their waterproof design and slip-resistant sole, which prevents slipping on wet or muddy ground. In forestry, they offer high protection against sharp objects like branches and rocks. In industry and construction, they ensure safety with a protective toe cap and resistance to oils, acids, and chemicals.

Dunlop boots are truly versatile and can be used practically anywhere high-quality rubber boots are needed. The full range includes models with a safety toe cap for industrial and construction work as well as toe-cap-free models for leisure wear or less demanding work environments.
