Cut-Resistant Gloves: Understanding the Categories and Labels

Cut-resistant gloves protect against injuries when working with sharp objects. In this article, we explore the categories and labels that will help you choose the right gloves for your work.

How are cut-resistant gloves categorized?

Cut-resistant gloves are a fundamental safety tool for workers who handle sharp objects. These gloves are designed to protect hands from cuts and injuries caused by sharp tools or materials. The EN 388:2016 standard regulates the testing and classification of these gloves, with their cut resistance assessed using various tests, including the latest TDM test (ISO 13997).

Based on the results of the TDM test, gloves are divided into six categories labeled A to F, where A indicates the lowest and F the highest level of protection. The test measures the force required to cut through the glove material under specified pressure and cut length. The values range from 2 Newtons (category A) to over 30 Newtons (category F). This classification helps workers select the appropriate protection level based on the risks they face at work.

Cut-resistant gloves can also be comfortable

Modern cut-resistant gloves are not just about protection but also comfort, which is crucial for daily wear. Manufacturers today focus on combining a high level of protection with comfort, enabling workers to wear gloves for longer periods without discomfort. Advanced materials such as combinations of glass fibers, steel fibers, and high-performance synthetic materials like Dyneema® or Kevlar® are used. These materials provide excellent cut resistance, along with flexibility, breathability, and lightness, enhancing the overall wearing experience.

Sleeves for full arm protection

Cut-resistant sleeves are designed to protect the entire arm, including the forearm, from risks associated with sharp tools or materials. They are ideal for situations with increased risk of cuts, such as working with sheet metal, glass, or in environments prone to mechanical damage. These sleeves are often used in combination with cut-resistant gloves, providing comprehensive protection for hands and forearms while offering a high degree of flexibility and comfort.

Choose cut-resistant gloves by class

Represent offers hundreds of gloves, so the cut-resistant glove category is divided into subcategories according to the relevant standard. This allows you to select gloves based on the level of protection you need.
